My name is John Gaffney and I joined Fidelity as part of the Graduate Initial Fidelity Training (GIFT) Program in September 2007. A friend of mine from my university, who had joined the GIFT Program previously, emailed me to say that Fidelity were opening the application process for that year's program. He told me about the course, and its benefits, and even though I was working for a couple of years, the program still had a great deal to offer. |

The GIFT group bonded very well together and through the extensive training program set out by Fidelity we learned a great deal. We were given courses in technologies such as Java, SQL, XML, and Spring, as well as the soft skills like good communication, effective presentation skills and project management. Even though I'd worked as a Java developer for two years before joining GIFT, I still learned an incredible amount about Java and it's related frameworks. The courses were presented by really experienced tutors who have developed extensive course materials geared to help you learn the languages in an interesting manner. Overall, I really enjoyed my time in the GIFT program. The people I worked with were really helpful and gave me great guidance. I found that the projects I worked on as part of GIFT proved to be a great way to exercise my knowledge of the materials I had learned so far, as well as some new ones. The project managers and technical consultants were a great resource to educate you on the best practices in technologies and within the company. |
